Women’s culture online abounds, from the Oprah-approved Oxygen.com to the alternative Chick Click sites and their affiliates. Many of these sites offer advice on deeply personal sexual health and romance topics.

For women, navigating the Web looking for sex-positive information can be tricky, considering the abundance of sites devoted strictly to pornography. Fear not however, there is a guiding force out there for women in the recently launched Femmerotic Network. Heather Corinna, the network editor and designer, says "The Femmerotic Network is a group of over twenty sites which focus on sexuality and/or erotica, but are friendly to all genders and orientations, and which also do not participate in the usual adult net consumer ‘tricks,’ such as pop-up windows, blind links, free trials that aren’t free, and so forth."

All of the sites in the Femmerotic Network are regularly updated, usually on a daily or weekly basis, and they explore a fairly wide range of sexual material, such as old-style erotic photography on Retro Raunch, and national sex news on Mouth Organ. Included in the group is Dr. Ducky DooLittle’s site. Dr. Ducky was formerly on Cherrybomb.com offering Fresh Advice to viewers’ sex queries. Her personal website provides many sexuality resources, some of which are webcams, sex information, and a chat room for her audience.

Also a must-see from the Femmerotic list is Jane’s Guide to Net Sex. Run by Jane Duvall, the site is the most comprehensive compilation of reviews on online sexual and erotic material. With system standards that let users tell at a glance if the described site is paid-membership only or ad-heavy, as well as site groupings by specific subjects (like BDSM or international sex), ten minutes of browsing will save most people hours of unfulfilling searching and surfing.

The Internet has changed dramatically in the last few years with regards to the amount of sex content directed towards women. Corinna says "Slowly, we’ve also been seeing a shift in some of the larger mainstream porn sites in terms of a more cautious approach in speaking about women." Corinna also runs Scarlet Letters, an erotica site, and Scarleteen, a fantastic sexuality resource for the teenage set.
